Allergic reaction

I'd like to put out a sort of public service announcement. I had cataract surgery on my left eye at the end of September. I was given Ilevro and Durezol drops to put in the that eye. Also, the doctor thought it would be a good idea to switch my glacoma drops from Timolol to Combigan.
Weeks after the cataract surgery, my vision in the left eye was no better than before the surgery. It actually seemed worse to me. My right eye also became inflamed so I was told to use the Durezol in the right eye also. I was referred to a retina specialist for the left eye and the retina was found to be swollen and inflamed.
Yesterday, I went to my new cataract doctor, because the one who did the surgery wouldn't even admit there was something wrong after the surgery and treated me like I was an idiot. By this time the vision in the left eye was worse and the right eye was a bloody mess. The new doctor said the inflamation in both eyes was due to the fact that I was allergic to the Durezol and the Combigan. He said the cornea in the left eye had some damage due to the allergic reaction. I am back to using the Timolol for glacoma instead of the Combegan and now I use Prednisone Acetate instead of Durezol. My right eye has improved somewhat overnight.
Please heed this warning. The problems you are having after cataract surgery may be due to an allergic reaction. I wish I had known that could happen, since I may have permanent damage to my cornea. Time will tell on that.

So sorry to hear about your allergic reaction and thank you for letting us know about it. It wouldnt be a problem for me but I am sure there are others that could possibly be affected by these drops, thats the great thing about this site, advice from the likes of yourself and others.

You're exactly right. With medications, many times new doesn't mean better. My old prescriptions cost hundreds of dollars. My two new ones cost a total of nine dollars.
