Are there any alternatives to thyroidectomy and hormone replacement?

Hi. I have a large (7 cm) thyroid cyst, I'm euthyroid and have been diagnosed with multinodular goitre. The cyst is growing rather rapidly. The only treatment being offered by my doctor is a complete thyroidectomy, which is understandable in the circumstances. However - and it is a big however - I am very bad at sticking to medical routines. It took me forty years to be reliable enough to take a complete course of antibiotics, let alone commit to taking a fussy drug like levothyroxine for the rest of my life. I haven't a snowball's hope in hell of sticking to that, even though I know not taking it will possibly kill me if I go ahead with the surgery.

And I don't know where to go from here. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks.
