Can liver/ebv issues lead to weight loss? Without loss of appetite.

We usually hear of liver issues causing weight gain however could it cause sudden inability to gain muscle/weight like before? I believe I have a mix of liver/ebv issues. I’m mostly recovered but I can’t gain muscles like before, and all my tests are fine apart from kidney function being a bit low but the doctor said it’s improving. I’m no longer losing weight but not gaining like I could before? Strange. Also If I drink a beer I lose about a kilo. This happened last month so I forbear from alcohol.
