hi amanda i have found over the nearly 3 years that i have been diagnosed, that the thyroid is a strange thing. i have gone from 40g a day to none and still my tyroid will not regulate itself. i have also put on 3 stone. i can say that at the moment i am on 5g and begining to feel a tad human again. although the heat intolarence is creeping back in.. i have no idea as to the whys and wherefors as it seems to effect everyone differently.  i have now embarked on a suger free type diet.. no juices, tea, coffee or alcohol ( water only) and i am trying to eat more fruit and veg. i am also going for a half hours walk a day.. and i am slowly begining to feel a little more healthy.. i hope you begin to feel better soon. Hi Amanda, from experience it takes time for the dosage to settle down and for you to start feeling better.  Hard to be patient but hopefully worthwhile in the end. I've been on carbimazole now for almost 20 years and am taking 20g a day and had to go on a block and replace medication so also take 50mg of thyroxin a day as well, but am feeling great now so all good.

Hi Amanda. I too have an overactive thyroid, which was originally diagnosed in 2008, which has returned 2 months ago. I have been taking 15mg per day, and yesterday, saw the specialist.  He is pushing me into either having the radioactive iodine treatment, or having my thyroid taken out completely. Either option means being on tablets for the rest of your life, and has no guarantees. I dont see why you cant just stay on the Carbimazole to keep it in check.
