Chronic Diverticulosis

Hi,

I'm 38 and this week, I was diagnosed with diverticulosis. This wording seems incorrect, to me, though, as isn't diverticulosis when you have the disease but no symptoms? Well, I've had symptoms, basically every day for the last eight years or so.

So, in my case, would chronic diverticulosis not be a better descriptor of what I have? I do not have 'flare up's'. So, calling it diverticulitis would be wrong. Unless it's possible to have that permanently? By no flare up's, I mean I have the same consistent symptoms (loose stool, occasional blood) every single day. I have no pain associated with my symptoms.

As for treatment, I know that there is no cure and changing diet is the only way possible to improve. But my symptoms are bad enough to stop me living much of a normal life, so I really need any diet to work. If I ask, do you think my GP would put me in touch with a dietitian? I'm in the UK, so I'm not sure if that's done on the NHS.

Thanks for any help.

Yes! My NHS GP put me in touch with a specialist dietician for bowel disorders. It's definitely worth asking, though usually results in FODMAP for a while
