I have very painful p. f. again! Any advice on where to get custom insoles at the best price??

I had some insoles made about 12 years ago and these did cure the problem for years.I went to London and paid a lot of money(£1000).I still wore sensible shoes, as I didnt want this to re occur, as the pain was excuciating!About 12 months ago I started a job where I had to stand constantly and guess what it came back, worse in one foot.I had to give the job up, as I was coming home in tears with the pain. The current insoles, which are quite old now, do not work anymore it appears!I have bought loads of different insoles, shoes, fit flops(which I do wear around the house and are the comfiest)so I need to get some more insoles made.Apparantly I have a high arch?My whole feet ache, and getting up in the morning is a nightmare!I hobble like an old woman!I am 48!It is really depressing, because I am always moaning about my feet and its annoying for my family too!Any advice welcome!Am trying a frozen water bottle on my feet and lots of ibuprofen at the moment too. Thanks Tina.

hi  I am sure u can get the insoles done on the nhs.  I once paid for them but they were not £1000 surely.  I am seeing the biomechanical dept at  local hospital on monday and will let u know what happens then.

I had them done on the nhs years ago , and they were awful,Maybe they have improved!.I have made an appointment on monday with a foot specialist not too far from me, who said he can advise treatment, strapping, taping and insoles.Yes,let me know how you go on.

I'm the same age as you and OMG in so much pain 24/7 driving me mad. Have had orthotics made by NHS they will make you some but they are like concrete so they can make a softer version. However I am now seeing a private biomechanics person who has stuck a heel raise on the NHS orthotic which has taken some pressure off but I think it's time that works, icing, and exercise. I sympathise with you and feel I am spending a lot of money for something that may just get better on its own.

hi! I can sympathise completely! It wont get better on its own, unless its a mild case.Insoles are the answer ithink, but it takes time, or finding a pair of shoes that work!I had a pair of clarks wedge mules that were great, but they literally fell apart with overuse, and I couldnt find the exact same ones again! nightmare.Am seeing a foot specialist on monday, will let you know how it goes!!

Hi Tina, I tried everything including physio for several weeks which didn't help at all, insoles and even an injection which also didn't help. My podiatrist recommended FitFlops which I know you've tried and I found that the boots are the only thing that helped and I can wear comfortably all day. A friend even had surgery for her plantar fasciitis which didn't work at all and was very painful as well as debilitating. I hope you get some relief soon as it makes life miserable. Take care, Deb

hi! I too had injections and physio years ago that didnt work, but I know it can be cured, as I was pain free for years,Definately the insoles, and exercises and correct footwear.(boring shoes!I used to love shoes ,now I hate shoes! wearing trainers etc is not nice!!)

It will re occur though if youve had it once, you are always going to be prone to it.Just the wrong pair of shoes can set it off again.Fit flops are ok, but not a cure.Am seeing a foot specialist on monday. Will let you know what he suggests, will try anything!!regards tina.

    Hi.

my insoles were from the NHS but it is the heel RAISE that is important as this is what takes the pressure of the Achilles heel and shortens the stretch of the plantar.

this morning I watched loads of YouTube videos and have to say there is some great advice out there. Once you have been diagnosed try and get the heel raises in all your shoes and avoid real flats. I'm not sure about fit flops and wonder if that's what gave me the problem in the first place maybe because my feet are narrow. Trainers sadly are the best with an orthotic in. Check out the massage videos and try taping the foot - I had this done by a podiatrist  just for going skiing but it's only temporary.

i am now going to start on a campaign of daily massage, phisio on stretching my upper calf which is where the problem stems from and icing twice a day on getting up and before bed. You can stretch also during the day. Good luck, it's so miserable but gotta keep trying. Xxx

Hi, three years plus with pf and heel spurs. I am 47 and the pain is excruciating, can't do family walks, dog walks etc. I had insoles on nhs but they were appalling,  rock hard and made my foot worse. Hospital keeps telling me it will take time - we'll 3 years down the line and still waiting !! I would pay thousands just to get rid of it if there was a way. I hobble like an old woman as we'll !  Hope something works for you.

hi.I am sorry to hear you have this too!The insoles I had custom made did work.It took time though, probably about 6 months..I initially got it by wearing stupid flat flip flops on a holiday in Spain.I think you can get them custom made cheaper than I did, bit ripped off I think, but I was desperate!.It is caused by something wrong in the mechanics of your foot though, over pronation makes you prone to it?Exercises and ice help a little and lots of anti-inflammatories.Hoping to get a new set of insoles made, and not be tempted to wear stupid flat shoes with no support, as I dont want this again.I would be tempted to try some custom made ones, as everyones problem area is different.Good luck!

Hi Tina..i also had to give up work at a library job because of walking and standing all day. The pf caused an issue on the opposite knee too which is common. Caused by over componsating. I got some crocs flip flops the range called sexyflips i think..have a heal strap just pull them on..no fastenings at all. Wore inside and outdoors..little flexible wedge. Worked miracles. Light as a feather. I tried as best possible not to walk in the first instance and it all calmed down.

Still flex feet every day..avoid walking too far on hard surfaces. Never walk barefoot. I also use a vibro plate..that really helps

Dont despair it does go away in its own right. I ve had flare ups over 9 years. It comes and goes but being careful to let it heal will work.

    I hope this helps

Hi Tina, I paid about £200 for mine from somewhere in Birmingham and they're all singing, all dancing. They're like robots in my feet. Mine haven't helped but I'm not convinced that my pain is PF. I can't post the guy's name in a comment as it'll get taken down but if you want me to forward you his details then send me a message.
