Basilar Artery/MBA

Hello,

I have recently been to the National Hospital in London and been diagnosed with Migraine with brain stem aura which used to be known as basilar artery migraine. As this is a rare condition it would be great to talk to someone with the same?

Hello smile I'm not sure about the Basiar part but googled it and it seems to be about the aura? I get auras with my migraines. Either flashing lights, numbness of my face/arm/tongue or slurred speech/confusion. It's not very nice but I see it as a benefit as its a warning of what's coming so I can take my pain and nausea meds in advance of the migraine. Although have googled it all a bit recently and apparently migraines with auras have been known to leave white matter on the brain which has worried me a bit but no one seems to know what that means??

      Hello,

I get my symptoms daily, my main one is severe dizziness. The dr in London has set up a management plan for me but I have to be triptans/pain killer free for 6 weeks first. I haven't heard of white matter? I got scanned two years ago when this first began but not since. Do you know what this means?

Thankyou for getting back to me. Do you see a neuro?

Hi robyn, did your Doctor help with how to manage pain during the 6 weeks triptan/pain killer free period? I don't know how I would manage the pain but I am hearing that a lot of preventative treatment options require you to be triptan/pain killer free before you start on them. Best wishes with your treatment.
