please help diagnose me headaches and nerve pain

Hi everyone, I am a 27 year old male who up until 6 weeks ago was in great physical shape. I started to get a headache and classic migrane symptoms that would not go away and would come back every 5 to 10 minutes. It has since progressed to full body aches and stinging nerve pain theoughout my body. The weird thing is no pain happens at the same time, it is either a headache or a pain somewhere in my body.

This has made me unable to work and ruined my life. I have been to a neurologist/primary care/psychologist/orthopedics specialist/chiropractor/ and physical therapy. On top of that I have had every scan and blood test done under the sun to rule anything out. At this point my doctors still have no answers for me and my problem isnt getting any better. I have no past drug use and I dont drink. At this point my doctors have put me on magnesium/b2/fishoil/multivitamins to try and help but to no avail. I also take .25mg of xanax at wake up and night(over a year now), along with welbutron low dose since all this started.

The only relief i seem to find is when I am laying in a hot tub filled to the top. If anyone has any suggestions or similar problems please help!

Symptoms

Burning/stinging at top of head

Pain at base of skull

Pressure in my temples (most frequent)

Tingling (like spiders crawling on my head up the right side)

Aches in my joints

Stinging/burning on my spine

Stinging/burning on the side of my thigh

*no symptom happens at the same time*

Medications

Fishoil

Magnesium

B2

Multivitamin

Xanax .25mg x2 a day over a year

Welbutron low dose since headaches started

Please help

Hi Jared,  well you can not live in the hot tub.  The hot steam is helping your head it sounds like.  It sounds like your nerves are freaking out on you,  There is a diet that is called Anti-Inflamatory diet, my doc just suggested starting it.  Be careful with the vitamins and magnesium as you can overdose yourself.  You can get blood work to see what your vitamin levels are in your body.  The nerve issue I have been dealing with for 20+ years and finally being on Amitryptiline, Nortryptiline and now Protryptiline not all at the same time, these types of drugs in this family help with nerve pains.  If your Dr. or Neuro would give you a shot at Amitryptiline to see if you progress with that to help the nerve pains you might be set, you have to give these drugs time to work tho so be prepared for a little wait time.  Hang in there and do not give up, you have to find a doctor that is open to trying to help you.  Do not get hooked on the pain meds, the pain meds help for a short time and then your body is hooked.  Think of pain meds as booze, short time help long time addiction!

Thanks cathrine, I was given 5mg hydrocodeine by my doctor, but I refuse to take it. The only worry I have is that I took cymbalta for a day once all this happened and I lost my mind with suicidal thoughts. I am the most happy go lucky person and it scared the living hell out of me. The welbutron has helped make my mood better again after weeks of use, but it has not done anything for the pain. I am really hesitant to go on a antidepressant/nerve blocker combo bc my experience with the cymbalta. My doctor prescribed me 300mg of gabapentin to take at night, but I am scared to take that as well.

Hi, I can not believe your doctor stated with Cymbalta, that is a really bad idea.  I was on Gabapentin for years (5) before it stopped working for me, it works really well for nerve pain and headaches, give it a try but give it a couple of weeks to see how you respond with it.  If you get dark thoughts that you cannot work through then see if he will try you on Amitryptiline.  They can put you on a combo of drugs like Gabapentin and amitryptiline so don't freak out.  Go to webmd also the Mayo clinic has a website, they talk about diffent drug side effects also sympton checkers.  There is a wealth of info out there on the internet but make sure you go to those like the Mayo Clinic or webmd for medication additional info.  Hang in there, you are definetly not alone.

Hang in there, at times all of this will bring you down but you can work through it.  Get out of the house when you are feeling dark, go to a coffee shop and have herbal tea.  You can and will get better in time I am sorry to say, but I have been where you are and I am in a better place although still dealing with the pain day by day.
