Im going through it right now... its started on the Dec 8th but I didn't diagnosed til the Dec 9th. Im on two meds - steriod and another one for antiflammation (i think spelled that right). Yesterday i started to experience soreness on the numb side; doctor stated thats the nerves trying to come back.

As of right now - i cover my face when i talk or smile.

Hi Tresremi, How are you? I have just been diagnosed, a bit frighting at first. I'm only on steroids and a bit worried about taken them. Went to the doctor today and she uped my dose and extended them to ten days!

Ok let me be straight forward - IT WILL TAKE MORE THAN 10 DAYS. I was diagnosed on 12.9.14 and today im able to see a slight moving in my cheek but my eye is still unable to close. I go for my follow up with the doctor 1.5.15; yes im still on my meds. Be prepared to feel some pain when your nerves start to come back alive - that stage is painful at least for me. I was a little depressed the first two weeks but luckly i got myself out of it; i still cover my mouth when i laugh real hard. I cant wait to get off the meds i think they r making me gain weight.

Thank you Tresremi for your reply. No one has said about pain when the nerves start to come back, so I won't be worried when that happends. Being depressed is what worries me about taking the steroids! I have been told that it can take anything from 3 months to a year to completly recover. However others that have had this, have recovered in about a month or two, so hopefully that will be me. Fingers crossed. Hope you make a good and complete recovery soon and thank you for replying, it has been helpful. Happy New Year.

And same to u. It's my first time taking steroids; i didnt see any side of effects at least that i noticed. If you need someone to whine to then u can message me - i dont judge. I still wake up every morning to check the mirror to see if i see improvement.

      Well get through this.

So when u experience the uncomfortable soreness pain in the numb side that's the nerves growing back or trying to work. I'm having this pain and It's a killer I can barely sleep

Yes... tell u doctor; I needed additional meds for that. So at the end i was taking 3 types of meds.

How are you now Donna? I have just been ddiagnosed, I'm worried about taking the steroids and have been told to stop taking them after 10 days, however the leaflet says to come off then gradually. What did you do?

I was on the fri about 6 wks put little weight on me but they helped tremendously, I did not have a relapse thankfully, but my left side my face stays swollen , I have massages every month an it really helps, July is 2 years, an I'm convinced it's forever, it has changed my life but I'm still great fun it's not a terminal issue. It's noticable to me more then others, however I have been breaking out with swollen lip every few months doctor not sure if side effect, steroids makes it go away within 24 hours, good luck to you, my recovery is on going, like most of us,

I started on 16 October 2014, and am now in my twelfth week.   I only was given steroids for six days, and they were given in the first 72 hours of onset.     I have recovered up to three quarters normality, but my lips are still tight on one side and my lower eyelid still sags slightly.   I have three monthly checks with eye specialist and ENT consultant.   They just tell me to be patient ! But I still can't blow my trombone !
