I'm always sick with something and I always feel tired. What could be wrong with me?

Hello! I'm new to this so apologies if I did something wrong. My name is Nikki and I'm 23 years old and I really want to fix this.

For as long as I can remember I've always been prone to getting everything. I always had a cold like every other week or a bug of some sort ever since I was a child. Now that I'm in college it's kinda taken a hold of me. I'm ALWAYS tired and feel like I've been up all night no matter how much I sleep. I'm ALWAYS sick no matter what I do. I never have energy to do anything. I'm always aching somewhere. I started exercising harder thinking that it would help but it hasn't. I have gone vegetarian for the last 4 months and I still feel this way. It didn't bother me when I was young, but now that I have a job and I'm in college it's really irritating.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? Should I see a doctor for it? i just want to feel better and I can't seem to get there.

I would ask your doctor to check your immune system,it's a simple blood test, it could show that you have always been short of antibodies to protect you from infection, if that is the case be sure to be referred to a specialist immunologist.

    Hope this helps

hello nikki. the first thing to do if not already done, is ask Dr for a full blood test.it could be any number of things ie iron, thyroid, ect. FULL BLOOD test.good luck. Dave.

Oh wow, I though I was the only one. Nikki, I too have been sick since literally the ae or 3 weeks old. I spoke with my mother recently and she said as long as she can remember i have always been sick/ gotten sick. I swear, someone sneezes across the room from me and two days later I have a fever and the worst cold ever. not to mention im sick almost every other week as well and my body constantly feels like i have just ran a marathon. I have no idea what is wrong with me and I too am old now (27) and trying to go back and get a teaching credential but i need to get down to the bottom of this and why I am always sick. last week i went to the doctor and brought my mother with me and we both explaned that i have always been sick and she left the room and came back with a psychiatrist card. Thanks. There is something really going on with my body and it seems no one understand.  I have no idea but wonder if it could be some sort of autoimmune deficiancy. I too am active and eat healthy. Im so stuck and cant get help or a direction from anyone not even my doctor. Ugh so horrible what a rut!

You two aren't the only ones. I've been sick as long as I can remember too (19 now) but part was from my tonsils. I had to get them removed and it only helped for a few years till I was back to being sick all the time. Right now I'm going through something and I already had my blood tested and my immune system is normal, but I'm still tired and sick. I really hope we all can find what's wrong with us and everybody else who is going through it.

    Hi nikki.

With such general symptoms that you describe it could be so many things, lots of which could be perfectly treatable. My condition which is Scleroderma and kidney disease has associated tiredness, but also has lots of other very specific symptoms. There is obviously something not right as it is not normal to feel tired all the time, so go and see your doctor, but, this is the most important thing... be totally honest with him or her about your symptoms and lifestyle, so you can get a proper diagnosis... However, in the meantime don't spend time trying to self diagnose on the Internet as it is counterproductive and not helpful, unless you are a qualified doctor. Good luck. Diane

Guess what...today i was just googling this very question and came across this site. And guess what my name is nikki and im 23 too! The coincidence huh! I have the same problem as you..over the past few months ive been falling sick very often, be it fever, cold, stomach problems, gastric issues, headaches, etc. Ive seemed to have lost my appetite as well..though ive been to doctors they have just prescribed tonics or tablets..no blood test as such...i really want to build up my immunity because im a college-going student and i dont want to feel tired or sick all the time...

I would look further into this especially with your symptoms. I was feeling under the weather in February and it turned out to be a very aggressive cancer

I would refer yu to my earlier reply ask for a simple blood test of your immune system,if this shows some odd results ask to be referred to a specialist immunologist who are the only people who can help you. Your GP is not qualified to even comment on this

You need a full CBC. Check your Iron B12 and D3 and Coeliacs/Celiacs disease.. Then click on a link that has information on fibromyalgia. It sounds like FM. Theres no test for FM, only symptoms that have prolonged for months/years.

    Hi Nikki

I'm currently experiencing the exact same thing. Were you premature? I'm always sick with little or no energy at all. It drives me mad & people think that I'm faking, but it really is a struggle. I fake being ok, but I can't fake being sick. If it's not 1 illness (lung infections, stomach bugs, various pains in different locations, no energy). I had choice sinus bronchitis as a kid and I have postnasal drip constantly.

I'm 23 & have no energy. I'm always going to the doctor and stay home a lot. I'm turning 24 next month, but how will I enjoy my birthday feeling like this? How am I going to keep my job? I need this job & realistically, I wouldn't be surprised if I were fired, because I have already been red-flagged for absenteeism.

I've been to different doctors & they can't find a thing wrong with me... I really am at my wits' end & have no idea what is left to do. The only time I get relief is when there are 'down periods' where I'll have a lot of energy, and get enough sleep (right through the night, which is the dream, because I'm an insomniac). I'm just a hot mess & need to know what is wrong with me.

Hey!! I'm sorry so happy to say I found a solution and it's insane how simple it was I didn't believe my doctor when we found out. He decided to take my blood and he found that my b-12 and vitamin d levels were so low he said he didn't know how I was functioning. He gave me a huge list of all the b-12 and vitamin d deficiency symptoms (which you should google to) and I hit EVERY SINGLE ONE. Anyway... he started me up on b-12 shots and really high doses of vitamin d and after a few days I felt better and after a month I feel like a completely different person. Go and make them test your blood and see where your levels are! I was amazed and how it changed me.

It's so easy for doctors to skip over because technically your "healthy" even if your vitamin levels are off so they don't see anything wrong. But it was a life changer!! Get them to check and see!
