Yeast Infection - Don't Recognize Myself Down There

So I've had a chronic yeast infection for around 6 months now...it's a rare type of yeast, apparently less than .1% of yeast infections are caused by this type of candida (just my luck) and nothing has been able to treat it and I am currently seeing a infectious disease specialist. After about the second - third week of having the infection, I noticed that my outer labia majora changed...they became long and more separated. And since then, I have looked like that. When I wear panties/swimsuits is when I feel the worst, because you can see the ugly low-hanging bulge and you can trace the ugly pointy w-shaped lips. I can't even go underwear shopping anymore and I try not to look at myself because whenever I do I become even more depressed than I already am. My doctor told me I look normal, but I don't. I don't look like myself. Just prior to the infection and for all of my 24 years of existence, I looked completely different. I looked pretty and perfect, nothing hanging too low, lips were together, you couldn't trace anything, because I had a full u-shape...

I am hoping that since these changes occurred at the same time of the infection, that it is just due to the infection and once this doctor cures me (hopefully), I will return to normal. But I'm afraid I won't, because I have been like this for so long...perhaps my skin is just permanently stretched...I don't know...I tried researching on whether anyone had experienced the same issue and have found nothing, which makes me feel even more hopeless. I don't want to look like this forever, I want to feel pretty and comfortable with myself again. I feel disgusting now.

Does anyone have any ideas about why I look like this or about the permanence of this condition?

I was very sorry to read about your problem.  I have had a long unpleasant history with candida infections, but have never heard anything like this.  I hope you will keep readers aprised of the course of your treatment.  I believe candida is one of the most misunderstood health problems in today's world.  I am especially concerned at the complacent attitude of health care providers who believe fungal infections are not serious.  If candida is responsible for the tissue changes you are experiencing, the greater ramification are shocking.  I shall follow your posts with interest.  Good luck and keep on working toward greater understanding of your condition.

Dear Worriedgirl;  Something has come up in my life that has added to my interest in your problem discussed in this blog.  I see that you only had one reply other than mine and it was deleted.  Would you please post your progress with medication and doctor's advice so that we may discuss your problem further.  I may be experiencing something similar and am seeing a doctor today about it.  As we both have never heard of this before, having another opinion or having another sufferer to share discussions might be extremely helpful.  Thank you.

I am Danish, so I apologize for my English.

I know this is an old thread, but I find it relevant to reply because I have some of the same experiences. I too have a very rare strain of yeast (Candida sphaerica), which is resistant to all azoles. Do you know the name of yours?

I have had it for seven month and am currently waiting to see a specialist in a hospital, which is going to take another couple of month.

I have experienced architectural changes around the foreskin of the clitoris: It isn't big, but I can definitely tell that there is a difference (and so can my gynecologist). I though it was due to the constant inflammation in the area that can make changes in the skin.

Did you ever get your problem solved? Did you discuss it with the specialist? I kind of hoped that things would go back to normal when the infection finally stops, but that might not be realistic.
