stomach ulcer symptoms

Hello. I have been told by a few doctors in the past and now from my recent doctor that i have an ulcer. The reason i would go see my doctors was because i would complain about lost of appetite, nauseated, excess gas. When i burp some food comes back up. When i been down there is times a little food comes up to my mouth. I feel checy discomfort like i have trouble breathing. Sometimes when i burp it helps. But also have trapped gas. I get sharp pains sometimes on my upper stomach like in the middle between my ribs.i actually been dealing with other symptoms like feeling tired and jittery .they checked my thyroid and it was negative. Doctor told me its an ulcer and precribe me omeprazole 20mg. But i always decide not to take them because im so againts taking medicines that are not herbal supplements.they checked if i had h.pylori and it came back negative. Does an ulcer actually causes lost of appetite and nausea?? And if it is does omeprazole help ? If it does help them i am willing to start taking it because i haven't been able to eat as much. I have to force myself to eat. I could go all day without eating until dinner time. Please help im trying to see what could be thats causing me to feel sick.

Hi, I had all the same symptoms for a long time. I have been taking Gastro Resistant tablets every day and they really do help. I have had the dosage increased a couple times. However I was diagnosed with an ulser early on too.. but never had a Endoscopy. A few years later in ER with severe adominal pains the doctor couldn't understand why I never had a scope done. An ulser cannot be diagnosed without one. Have you had this test done? It turns out I have Gastritis not an ulser and I'm still waiting to find out more from the consultant about next step for treating this. However the tablets I've been on are good for both. And they should help an ulser cure itself in a few months (4-6 maybe) If it goes on longer than that without improvement, I'd advise insisting on a scope.

I have been told "oh you probably have an ulcer" . I would always tell myself how can they say i have an ulcer if they didnt even send me with a specialist . Im going to see my dr in two weeks. Hopefully she send me to see a specialist.

I take it you had a breath test for h.pylori ?

Unless you have an Endoscopy or Barium Meal test they cannot say you have or do not have a Stomach Ulcer.

But if you eliminate h.pylori as the culprit - it does not matter - Stomach Ulcer or Gastritis the treatment is the same.

Omeprazole is a PPI. And PPIs reduce the acid content in the Stomach giving it a chance to heal. They can help to overcome Stomach problems but should not be used in the long term.

Another group of acid inhibitors are H2 Receptor antagonists. Not quite as effective as PPIs but safer in the long term (Ranitidine and Cimetidene are two of them).

You need a period of bland - non spicy foods. Going all day without food is an absolute no no. You need small meals eaten often. Try starting the day with porridge and Yogurt and Probiotics can be very helpful. Steamed green vegetables are also good.

Do antacids such as Calcium Carbonate tablets and Gaviscon help ?

    Best wishes

I did the same thing ,putting off the meds beacuse i didnt want the chemical in my system.I suffered through severe stomach pains that felt like it went around in my back, no appetite and symptoms only got better when i gave in tothe nausea. I lost 65 pounds from just not being able to eat. the doctor gave me pantoprazole 40 mg and sucralfate, feeling better not as many setbacks if i stay on my vegetable soup and apple sauce are the only foods that will not bother my stomach, and i am glad to have that. waiting to heal also .I call it a sleeping monster. better not wake it up with the wrong foods.
