Am I going crazy or is it gabapentin withdraw

Posted , 6 users are following.

Everytime I go off of gabapentin I feel like my sense of touch is thrown off, quit breathing in my sleep, get depersonalized, have unreal fears, become extremely hostile, cry for no reason, feel unattached (kind of like schizophrenia), and I'm fatigued. My doctor told me its not addictive. I've been taking 800 4×s a day for 2 years. How long does this generally last???

It is a very harsh drug. You can't stop cold turkey.

Work with doc to wean off. You will go through withdrawal but stopping abruptly could lead to seizures. My withdrawal was hell for me

Many side effects after are indeed possible

I felt all of what you are describing and I was only on it for one month.

Find a doctor who has experience with this medication

Unless yours is willing to research.

It has taken me over a month after to even begin to feel normal

Know that it's not you and your doctor needs to educate them self more.

Keep the faith and open up about it

    Find others

    It helps

But do not just stop taking it

It has to be gradual and their are new studies about the idea of addictive qualities when combined with other meds.

I think you need to talk to your Dr. He is very wrong., it's very hard to wean off of without the terrible side effects! I believe from all of the others comments on here that it must be addictive!

we are all responsible for our own health, we need to be our own advocate when we are dealing with Drs. They are human just like you and I. Don't stop until you get the answers to your problems solved! You matter....your health matters! Ask to be sent to a specialist if he cannot give you the knowledge you are so desperately seeking.
