    Hi Lucas

Has your mum had any tests regarding the nerves in her leg? The experts in this are you Neurology department and the test is called an EGM.

However, has your mum had any specialist physio in hip replacement and Related pain also? If she hasn't for a long time or not at all that should be your first port of call as a good physio should be able to diagnose The basis of her pain.

There are plenty of painkillers available for nerve pain and whilst I was prescribed Tramadol for my hip pain, I now take 1 g of paracetamol twice over a 24 hour period and that seems to be more effective - crazy tbut works for me

Hi Lucas I agree could be nerve pain. I cannot take tramadol and I was prescribed Amitryptaline for my nerve pain.It did help was on it for 2 months, it is the most excruiating pain I ever had so I can sympathise with your mum. I would ask to see the surgeon again or get the GP to refer to a neurosurgeon. It does get better in time, you do not say how long ago your mum had this 3rd Operation. Recovery will be slower for her due to her having sugery 3 times.

    Hi Lucas,

My name Jackie I'm 49 I wad born with hip dysplasia. I had total hip replacement when I was 25 . Then Oct 2013 I had to have hip revision when I woke up my foot felt funny my doctor said give it some time. But the pain got worse.

So I went back to my surgeon and he sent me to neurologist and turns out I have sciatic nerve damage from the revision. Your mom might want to ask her doctor if she can go to neurologist. I still sometimes walk with cane and can't sit or stand for longer than 30 mins.

I'm going to see specialist that dies revision hip surgery.

Wish the best for your mom

Let us know how she's doing

I think you have gotten good advice here - I am hearing that you should have her seen by a physiotherapist and a neurologist to see what might be ca using the pain.

I must admit that i am a bit taken aback by the orthpedic surgeon's dis missal of this. If he doesnt know the original equip mentioned used, surely he ought to consult with colleagues in Germany or replace the whole assembly.

I am so sorry for your Mom and for you. It must be hard seeing her in so much pain.

    I truly wish you well.

In case it helps others provide better or more specific advice, where does your Mom live?

    Wishing you well.

    Hi Lucas (and Linda)

linda is right re surgeon but I feel yr mum might not be in a good place right now to tackle the monolith that calls itself nhs!  Suggest if u feel up to it or have a friend who loves a David/Goliath situation you start with PALS in your nhsTrust - ring trust and ask for their Department.  Point out u believe yr Mother has a nhs right to be given such basic info about her operation and that she is too ill to fight on her own and will they do it for her starting with a fresh appt with head of orthopaedics to tell her what has gone wrong and what the way forward is .......... If you feel not getting anywhere fast then ask for name of pals spokesperson and state u are considering legal action over her treatment at the hands of the trust.  Do not get abusive, upset or put off.  U know what they say do not get mad ....get even and something really seems amiss here where your mums treatment concerned.

any problems I am sure even on this forum some of us do have experience of nhs and their ostrich ways and risk managers - that title always gets me going.......

    regards dot

Hi Linda So that is where you are, as you know I am UK resident but currently medically berthed  in Spain.  As the Spanish say poco poco  which means little by little things get better. Had my usual fix  with Herman today and it's surprising how quickly pleasure and pain get mixed up especially with that killer smile  of his when he is doing his worst.  yesterday was my 66 birthday and I was going to ask him for a kiss but I backed down at the last minute,  when I realised I had just told him that hubby shared the same birthday and was 69 thought he might have baulked at the idea that this was some quaint English custom and he had to kiss both of us! Spanish/English relationships too far.  We have both been ribbing  him as he is off to Ibiza next week and the island is famous for its youngsters and their drunken antics.........

      Adios Amiga, Dot

Just noticed the typo on my previous message - 'lover' your posts! But maybe that was appropriate with everything 'going on' between you and Herman. 😇😆😉 I wonder if you could get away with an Olde English custom to kiss the birthday woman one week after celebrations are over (to aid with attention withdrawal symptoms)! What fun.

How did you end up in Spain ... I got there only once on a week long work trip to Madrid and really enjoyed the time and people. But Spain is not as high on my husband's travel list as mine (not that I am hard done by at all).

It occurs to me that I should start gathering ideas to celebrate my 65th birthday in style and ... you may be just the woman to ask first!

Take care Dot and never lose your fabulous attitude.

      W ith belated birhtday hugs,

    dear Lucas,

so sorry to hear this abaout your mom - you mentioned "partial" THR December 2014 - has she had follow up appointments and were xrays taken?

It doesn't  sound normal to me, but i am not a specialist --

I agree with previous comments, start by getting a referral to Ortho Specialist and have it checked ..

please keep us informed how it is going okay and also, come back here any time - there are so many members here who know so much , also about how to get through the maze aka NHS

big warm hug to both of you

    renee
