Severe groin pain

I notice that the groin pain discussion is still going full swing.

I wrote on here about seven months back about my groin pain.

I would like to update you.

I ended up going to the hospital to see a specialist as I too was in such severe pain in my right groin and with further pain in my hip, leg and I also had several crumbling vetabraes.

The specialist gave me xrays and an M.R.I. scan and then told me that I had problems with the nerve in the groin which was causing the pain.

I was admitted into hospital and was given three courses of cortisone injections and I also had traction for five days, which did not help at all. I was still in agony and had to go back to the specialist, who then said that it was still the nerve and that I needed an operation.

I then had an appointment to go to see the surgeon to have the operation on the nerve. When I went to see him, he said that it was not the nerve at all that was causing the pain. ( By now I am getting really annoyed ).

I then went back again to the specialist and was sent for more xrays and I was then told that the pain is due to my hip needing replaced. She also informed me that I have Osteo Arthritis, which is very bad and that too is causing a lot of pain.

So the outcome so far is that I now have to see another surgeon on the 13th September to be examined to go into hospital to have a hip replacement.

I live in France and France is suppose to have some of the worlds top specialists and hospitals, well I can assure you that as I have had so much messing about with them, they dont seem to know what they are doing, that I am very disappointed.

But I will persevere and hope that this time they have it right.

So please wish me luck and hope that they have it right this time.

Jenny, I'm so sorry to hear of your suffering. Your experience sounds so much like mine in regards to multiple physicians not having a clue. As if the pain isn't bad enough and anxiety provoking enough, the physicians that either change their assessments or worse yet, look at you like you're nuts, make that anxiety go through the roof. It's hard to have confidence in them.

I'm glad to hear you are at least moving forward. I'm not sure about the medical system in France, but can you get another opinion before you have the hip surgery? Is there any physician who thinks the pain may be coming from your spine? L2 and L3 dermatomes correlate to the groin area and that was the case with me. But who knows. It's so different for everyone. Anymore, I Google "dermatome chart" and look at the images myself to see the areas of correlation since my entire spine is sort of a messsmile

The best of luck to you and keep us posted on your situation. Keep up the fight and don't lose hope.

Hi Matchamaiden and thank you for your kind words.

The vertabrae was the first thing they said was the problem, but they seem to be just guessing most of the time, well thats what it feels like.

It is so frustrating when you are diagnosed and then get told that it isnt that, it could be something else.

When the specialist said that the pain is now due to the hip, I was so releaved because, I was beginning to think that they were thinking that I was lying.

So now it is the wait and see to what the surgeon is going to say on the 13th September. Thank you once again for your kind words and I am so glad I am not on my own x

I will keep you up to date on how it goes.x

Hello again, just an update about the pain in the groin. I went to see the specialist in September, who was convinced that I needed a new right hip. Well I had the op two and a half weeks ago. So far so good ( I think ) as I am still very sore and the staple are being taken out in stages as there was a lot of them. I think when the last staples are out, I hope to be able to put all of my weight on the right leg with the help of my crutches. I still have some pain in the groin, but I think that will go when I start Physio and moving about a lot more than I am at the moment. Thank you so much for your support. I do hope you get yourselves sorted very soon x Hopefully for me, it will be onwards and upwards. x
