I became completely deaf from an aggressive case of bilateral Meniere's Disease. When I went for surgery to have my cochlear implant, I had about 25% hearing left in the other ear, 2 days later, that ear lost all hearing so I was so happy I had opted for the implant!
I wish I could have had both sides done but in Ont, Canada, OHIP pays for one ear if you are over 18 and I cannot afford to pay for the other myself. I feel so lucky to be able to use the CI device.
Since this is an older question I am replying to, I am wondering what you decided and how you are doing?

I just had surgery for my cochlear implant last Thursday and I'm at home recovering !the surgery was on my left ear and I'm glad I didn't need to wait any longer since I know I'm quickly losing my hearing on my right (better ) side !

If you don't mind me asking how long ago was your surgery and how did your recovery go?
