Hsv2 and oral sex question

Posted , 2 users are following.

My gf has asked about having oral sex, specifically me receiving her and i told her i wanted to hold off for awhile because i wasn't sure if its safe. Can someone shed some light on the risk factors in my situation? I am really afraid to have oral sex without a condom. Ugh. ..another hurdle i have to over come.

Thanks

    Who has HSV2? Your gf?

If you are newly/recently infected and/or are experiencing shedding or an outbreak, then it has a higher chance of passing. However, HSV2 tends not to prefer the mouth as much, although obviously oral infections are possible. If you are not having an outbreak, feel fine and have had it for a while, and your partner understands the potential risk even if low, then it should be fine. Should she acquire it orally, it usually rarely recurs or sheds and also provides immunity to getting it genitally after adequate antibody production (4+ months).
