Congestion leading to insomnia

Hello everyone. I'm a little desperate.

Lately I've been feeling extremely congested. It feels like the area around my layrinx is closed up or blocked. It feels almost enflamed and a little sore, but it's not a full-on sore throat. It feels like there's a little bit of post nasal drainage that just won't come out. It happens in episodes. There will be moments where I don't feel it at all and I can breathe just fine, and then 30 minutes later, I can't breathe through my nose at all.

I don't really have any other symptoms and I don't have covid. I already got tested to make sure. However, this past year, I was quite sickly.

In February of 2022, I caught covid. It lasted about a week and all of my symptoms went away and I was fine for a while. Then in October, I caught the flu and got better after about 2 weeks... Then in November I caught it again... And then I caught it again in December...

After catching it in December, I've been dealing with a lot of left over side effects such as a cough that lasted for what seemed like an eternity. The greenish mucus that you get from the flu lingered and I still have it to this day. Most of that is gone though, except for the problem that I'm currently having right now. It feels like it's progressively getting worse. It really started to become a big issue about 2 weeks ago when I started getting a little bit of insomnia due to not being able to breathe at night. Since then, it's been getting more and more frequent to the point where now where I haven't slept more than 2 hours over the past 3 days.

I'm constantly wake up gasping for air. And to add to that, I'm starting to have anxiety about sleeping. It's a really nasty feeling waking up in the middle of the night because you're suffocating. I've tried using saline spray, nasal decongestants, an inhaler, elevating the bed and nose strips. Nothing seems to work. I have two doctors appointments lined up, one with a sleep apnea clinic and another with my general doctor, however these aren't for another two weeks (that was the soonest I could get them).

Please, I beg you. Help me find a way to get some sleep tonight. I'm so incredibly tired...

Thank you guys

    Hi Adam,

I am sorry to hear you are suffering with this horrible thing too. I am having same problem for months. No spray or medication worked for my post nasal drip, and I tried tons. Lots of tests, different specialists, can't find a solution. I have this problem 24/7 and could and cannot sleep unless I take sleeping medication. Sleeping medications are not good long term but it leaves with no choice. I will be having a procedure called Clarifix soon, is my last hope. My quality of life is 0. Over the counter sleeping aids might be worth a try but they didnt do the trick for me so only psyche meds prescribed by doctors allow me to "sleep", or better to say, to be sedated. Feel free to send a PM if you have any other questions.
