Could this be cancer from these details in m Ultrasound report?

The first sentence of my ultrasound report says:

"Peripheral zone inhomogeneous with left-sided hypo echoic nodularity measuring about .7 cm." '

I'm 61 have had BPH for three years. My PSA is always up at 4. however my urologist doesn't think I should have an MRI. He seems a little lackadaisical about it. Anyone have any opinions on the first sentence of my ultrasound report? Would be much appreciated.

    1. As you have been living with BPH for some years, I assume the imaging you had was a transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS).

    2. Hypoechoic lesions (peripheral zone) may be benign or cancerous.

    3. If it were me, I would ask for a 3T multi parametric MRI. If that is not available then get a 1.5T MRI which will be reported on by an EXPERT RADIOLOGIST in PROSTATE IMAGING.

In my case a 3T was not available but I found an EXPERT RADIOLOGIST who reported that I have an excellent chance of hosting a cancer. And he was spot on. The biopsy performed subsequently found the cancer.

Do not jump for an invasive biopsy instead of a MRI. If the MRI is bad news or "suspicious" for cancer THEN it'll be time for a biopsy. And then you still have options, depending on the cancer.
