CT scan results

Hi

Some of you may have seen me on this site as well as the IBS site as I have both IBS and diverticulosis.

So far I saw GP Gastroentrologist and Surgeon. I had stool samples ultrasound and CT scan two days ago during a flare up.

I was given IV liquids and Tramadol. Felt great next day.

All came normal. However I have extensive diverticulosis and a large diverticular pocket in the sigmoid area. Toda I don't feel good again.

I have been taking prune juice and it helps but bowel movements still lose almost liquidy.

Also I am wondering if I should get the large pocket removed in the sigmoid area. I don't want it to burst one day.

I will need to see GP then Surgeon.

What do you think?

Vivian

Hey Viv.... remember me? I have a colonostomy sheduled for Sept. 4. My problem is also in the sig area. I will let you know what the outcome is. I was told it is not always the answer to have surgery so I am clueless. Are you having lots of problems now?I am under control but have to be careful.

Hi Vivian. It sounds to me as though you may benefit from very soft stools. I do. I take laxative every day now. What did the doctors suggest when you consulted them? All I know is that I get a flare as soon as I don't go toilet enough. I can not manage on diet alone hence I take laxative. Perhaps you should try it for some time, before deciding on surgery. If your symptoms are controlled you might feel different about having operation. Best of luck to you. Let us know how you get on

      Hi

Thank you. Guess what? Got a call from Surgeon. Apparently he got my results. He wants to see me right away.

Hi,  This is such an awful condition to have and I find very restricting, I had a bad flare up yesterday with lots of pain and nearly fainted but managed to get to the settee in time.  What laxatives do you take?  I have Senacot in the cupboard but wondered if it would do more harm than good as I have many many pouches.

      Hi

I have senakot also. I use it..GI specialist recommended restorolax. Does not work. I think I may need surgery. I have one karge pocket that could probably burst.

I am not sure how large the pockets that I have are, only that I have many and some at the lower end.  I passed out when I had the last colonoscopy about three years ago so was unable to ask questions at the time and the GP that I had at the time wasn't very helpful.  If you have the surgery, do you know what exactly they do?  Is it a case of cutting out that part of the colon?

      Hi

I will be seeing Surgeon on Sep 8. I will let you know. I think he will suggest that yhe large pocket be cut out because there us a chance it could burst during a constipation episode. Then it becomes serious. I was shocked when I found out I had a lot of pockets. Apparently they spread.😔

Good luck Vivian, I hope that they sort it out soon.  I wish that I knew more about all these pockets that I have got, if I get any more bad attacks I think that I will see our GP and ask him if I can have another Colonoscopy.

Hello ladies. Just a word about laxatives. There's different types. Senenakot is not the best one I find. I use movicol. It's a stool softener. It works a treat. And I use 2 a day. Want to keep the poo as soft as possible. Good luck vivian with surgeons.

Is that the same as Cosmocol? As that is what my doctor has prescribed for me but it has all sorts of side effects, especially feeling sick.

I'm not sure what they call it over In Canada. It's a sachet and it's a osmotic laxative. You may feel nauseous from diverticular disease itself too. I feel nauseous if I don't go toilet properly. Another osmotic laxative us lactulose.
