First colonoscopy

hi there

i am due to have a colonoscopy in a couple of weeks im absolutely terrified 😦 I know its more than likely going to be uncomfortable but wanted to know whether the sedative they give u helps, and do u have anything for the pain?

consultant is adamant that i have IBS but said just have it done for reassurance, but as well as mythering about the bowel prep i can't stop thinking about whether i will cope with the procedure

does anyone have any advice please 😃

All I can tell you is that mine were not painful, just a bit of discomfort when it turned a corner. I was calm throughout, in fact I talked too much and asked a lot of questions as you will probably be able to watch it on the screen. All very interesting. I was told the results as soon as they finished - all ok. You'll be fine!

Hello there, please try not to worry too much. I have had two now without a sedative and have experienced discomfort but no pain. Its definitely better to have the procedure and know whether you are well or not, than to have the worry which comes with not knowing. Good luck and I hope all is well - IBS isn't fun, but I'm sure its better than the alternatives.

(If you want a no holds barred description of my last colonoscopy, you will find an old thread from a few weeks ago if you search 'colonoscopy' in the search box)

ah thanku so much theresa. ive felt quite anxious about it this week and still 3 to go! i know its silly, but i know doing the right thing. i did have bowel adhesions few years ago but they were removed during a laparoscopy. I still don't know what caused them so b interesting to see whether they see anything.

however, I'm hoping it is ibs as will seriously look into my diet! my main symptom is faecal incontinence but only happens now and again

thanku for reassuring me and will look at your old thread 😃
