Have osteoarthritis and now my hip hurts

I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and lately my right hip has been hurting when I walk. I went to emergency cause when I laid on my right side the pain was astounding and could hardly walk! I had xrays and a catscan and they couldn't find out what was wrong. I take tramadol for the arthritis but dr said my hip and back were fine except for the space in the spine area which he said was normal. Can he see arthritis in a xray and CT scan? It's manageable with pills but I need to know what this is. Apparently it isn't sciatic nerve but he told me to see a orthopedic specialist. I'm taking the hospital paperwork to my dr's office after work. I've never had pain when I walked before and my left hip heats up and hurts sometimes but not if I sit up straight. What should I do now?

Ask your GP for a referal to an orthopaedic surgeon as they are specialists with joints. X-rays don't always show up what the problems are.

I did when this first started and she said she was giving me a referral to a pain doctor, so since then i've been to urgent care it got so bad and they did another xray and catscan and still found nothing. So my doctor said to bring the paperwork from the hospital so when I did that yesterday she said that did her no good so I signed a form for the hospital to release the results and when I asked about the pain referral she said it's still pending and treated me like it was no big deal that I had all this pain. For the past 2 nights my leg has woken me up at 1:30 and its like a muscle spasm except that its really painful and won't lessen unless I take something. During the day when I worrk when I get up from my desk i'm limping a little and then the more steps I take the better it is. I'd think this was just muscle spasms and I need potasium and vitimins except for the limping. All I can do is wait. The receptionist said the doctor would look everything over and decide whether or not to give me the referral. What is this? They act like they are doing me a favor!

      Hi there!

I go to MULTIPLE doctors for multiple issues. All gets filtered through my Primary Care Physician.

The referral business is a weird one. The Primary Care Physician is like the Orchestra Conductor and directs everything.

Surgeries MUST go through the Primary Care Physician, too. The Primary Care Physician is like MOM and DAD having to sign your permission slip to go on a field trip!

Anyway, it becomes quite involved. I sincerely wish it was possible to KUST PICK A DOCTOR AND GO TO SEE HIM/HER, but it doesn't seem to work that way.

I have also found that doctors don't like to talk to one another. I waited two weeks for my surgeon and my periodontist (actually their SECRETARIES!) to decide who was to write my prescription for an antibiotic prior to teeth cleaning!

I have called my Rheumatologist's office three times to see if I need to come in for my appointment scheduled many months ago. Since then I had a TKR on my left leg and am no longer taking the Meloxicam prescribed by my Rheumotologist. I have YET TO HEAR from my Rheumotologist...probably because he doesn't want to talk to my GASTROENTEROLOGIST who said NOT TO TAKE the Meloxicam because he suspected it was causing ulcers in my colon!!!!

I am LAUGHING at this as I write it because it all seems SUPER STUPID even though it is TRUE!
