i've done everything: took magnesium, took laxative(for a week,no results), hemorrhoids meds(nothing).

i stopped caffeine did sports regularly and went to a nutritionist who gave me a diet for constipation but.. nothing changed..i'm getting scared why nothing is working, what's wrong? Please help..My problem went so far and i have anal fissure bcz of my constipation and i guess it's chronic because i had it 2 years ago even though the doc prescribed me meds for a month but it didn't heal rolleyes and i'm only 18 rolleyes

PS: i drink 2L of water everyday

and btw i went to a lots of doc (general, gastro, nutritionist, bowel mouvement) but no results.

Hello, I really feel for you. I had exactly the same problem as you when I was your age, and unfortunately for me it took until I was in my sixties to find the solution. Now what works for me may not work for you, but I have found Movicol (on prescription) does the trick. One packet a day keeps me ticking over nicely. Like you I had tried everything you mention. You do seem to have consulted many types of doctor but I think you must go back to your GP and explain exactly how severe your problem is and ask to be referred to another specialist.

    Good luck!

Hi I have a 10 year old that has suffered constipation for a few years but has only recently got the problem sorted. After numerous visits to G P I took her to A&E. Was given movicol at first but didn't have much success. Then was seen by a gastroenterologist and she was given 2 days treatment of picolax and dulcolax, those things are like dynamite and will get things moving, bearing in mind my child was very bungled up! This worked really well though it was very messy! Now she takes maintenance dose of movicol, 2 sachets a day and dulcolax at night. She also has regular time on toilet 20 mins after meals. This is working brilliantly and have had no problems for about 6 months. Hope this is a bit of help. Please don't be conned off by your GO ask to be triggered to hospital. Good luck.

These posts are now so old but I will hopefully open this again. I had no idea this was something so many others suffer too. All my life I was fortunate to get the urge to go EVERY morning on a cup of coffee. Now that I am old its another matter. I did go to doctor and he prescribed transipeg!  Now living in Switzerland I don't know if this is available elsewhere or under another name perhaps. But it works in powder form on transferring more water to the rectum and thus softening the faeces. Only thing is it takes between 24 and 48 hours for results.  However I am pleased to offer my own remedy: buy dried prunes and stew them until soft. Then break them up into a pulp and eat these regularly. You can actually add ice cream or fresh cream to them. But they do seem to do the trick. I gather the same can be done with dried figs. I think patience is the operative word with constipation and its very difficult to find that because you are ancient, your bowel movements have changed. I guess we think we will continue going daily. It isn't like that in old age... patience my friends. And if you live alone, rejoice! No line waiting outside the door whilst you read cover to cover the New York Times!!!  Take heart. We are not alone...
