Helppp.. cellulitis won't clear after two months

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi, I'm really hoping someone can help. I have had cellulitis in my lower leg for two months, I have had 5 types of oral anti biotics and the cream, nothing is working! The redness is still there along with the extreme heat, I'm now getting strange pains in my leg, feet and toes. It's not painful to touch directly. Any advice would be really appreciated smile thank you!! X

    Hi,

    Really sorry to hear it.

It's important to find a strong antibiotic and complete the course,

They usually take around 2 days to kick in in my experience so it's difficult to know when it's working. The faster-acting ones are intravenous and if you want it sorted well I've heard it's good to just stay in a hospital for a week whilst they do this.Otherwise, perhaps a nurse can come to your house each day and inject you (through a cannula). Very best of luck Jade, will pray for you.

You need to go hospital and go onto IV antibiotics(fluxcococillin).. It's the only way it will clear it.

I've had it 9 times now sad

Have they explained to you why you have had this 9 times which is very unusual so many times.  Interested to know.

hI Jade,   I was sorry to read your experience of Cellulitis.   Its worrying,   my husband is at present suffering from this,  the hospital sent him home with anti biotics which are doing no good at all, after he stayed in there for 3 days whilst they diagnosed Cellulitis.    Since coming home his leg which was just half way up with redness and awful pain around the calf, has now progressed to up behind his knee and the leg is hot and solid, and just been taken back into hospital.   he is 73 and never had anything like this and its really made him ill.   I am hoping that they can get control of it but after reading your post, seemingly,  its not that easy to get on top of it.  One thing that is very worrying about Cellulitis is the possibility of Septocemia, which can be fatal,   Due to his other health problems he cannot go onto IV anti biotics,  so just hope the NHS come up with a cocktail of drugs to  nip this in the bud.  Very worrying to anyone who has Cellulitis,  Yes my husband has stabbing pains and so much pain cant even get socks on.

Hi Jade, I know you posted your enquiring last year regarding cellulitis.

I have got the exact same problem!!

I’ve had cellulitis in my left foot and ankle for 9 weeks now.

I’m on my 5th course of oral antibiotics from my doctor. When I start the antibiotics the pain goes, but I still get strange pains up my shin and in my knee. The swelling goes down just slightly. However, After finishing the antibiotics within a day or so the swelling and pain creeps back.

I have recently been off work for 3 weeks with cellulitis and had my foot elevated everyday, which slightly helped with the swelling. However, as soon I was back at work and just getting on with everyday activities my foot swelled up again. When my foot isn’t elevated the swelling rapidly returns.

I have a very demanding job which requires me to do a lot of walking each day. Also I am a single parent so I’m running round doing my Mum duties when I get home from work.

I really don’t know what to do and how to get rid of the cellulitis!! After 5 courses of antibiotics it still hasn’t gone.  what other treatment can I get to get rid of cellulitis?

Has your cellulitis cleared up now? If so what treatment did you have to eventually clear it?

I also had blistering and a bit of leakage from my foot. I got a cream from my gp, which seems to be helping abit.

I’d really appreciate some advice because I really don’t know what to do.

    Thanks

Hi. So sorry all of you have to deal with this.. I absolutely feel your pain. I am on month 10 of cellulitis, and still the burning fire in my lower right leg is absolutely getting the best of me. Sometimes I feel faint, totally wrong, and off-balance; have had two big faceplant falls in recent weeks. (I am in my 40s and otherwise healthy.)

I did find some relief from a lymphatic drainage specialist

("neuromuscular rehabilitation"wink but having been waiting weeks for next appt. GP doesn't seem to believe me; prescribed Advil, and ER for pain. (Yeah right, like I'm going to ER every day at 3am..)

    Help.
