immobilize a broken foot

hello

happy to have found this site.

4 months ago i have broken my ankle. i spent 8 weeks in the boot non weight bearing.

now i'm here with the same foot fractured again. Infact while on vacation i managed to crush it with a heavy rock!

no doubt it's broken because i can't remove the shoe as i feel the bones moving inside. luckly i always have bandages and

a flexible splint with me, so we managed to immobilize it enough.

at a first aid post i was given painkillers, they started cutting the shoe but the doctor told i absolutely need to see

a specialist and avoid movements.

luckly no damages to nerves or blood supply, they reinforced the emergency splint and pains are bearable now.

the doctor suggested to go to local ER to have a backslab plaster applied and then see a specialist back home.

my experience with backslab splint isn't very good, when i broke the ankle i wore it one week, was unstable and cutt off circulation.

so i was thinking to do the trip (only 3 hours of car) with this emergency splint since it looks ok.

i'll wrap a pillow around the leg to protect it. does it make sense?

i'm afraid the fracture is worse than the old one so my fear is that the plaster splint would be even more unconfortable.

thanks

So sorry to hear of your problems.  I see my orthopedist today to hopely be released after a Jones fracture of my 5th metatarsal.  I didn't also have an ankle fracture but a very bad srprain.  I think it's a very good idea for you to seek medical help ASAP and to keep the ankle immoblized, elevated and iced until seen.  After medical options don't hesitate for a second opnion to be able to confirm or   Good luck and stop playing with rocks.

you are correct, i saw doctor who basically said to go to the specialist.

still can't belive how stupid the accident was. luckly i "saved" the good foot, i wouldn't be able to crutch on this ankle.

I was in a non weight bearing fiberglass cast and able to get around with a knee scooter.  I figured I'd fall if I had to use a crutch and then I'd be in even bigger trouble.  See the specialist!
