Intermittent all over itchiness 4 weeks post gallbladder removal

I am 4 weeks post surgery for gallbladder removal. I am having intermittent all over itchiness with no rash. It is especially bad in the evening and at night. I was told by my surgeon this was the bile salts working their way out of my body. It is still going on 4 weeks later!! Anyone else had this issue?

have u ever had your liver checked or kidneys? if not get it check, am not saying its related to the itching but when i was having gallbladder issues and after removal, my liver was showing signs of something was wrong, take these concerns up with your doctor and ask for a full bloodwork panel

Thank you. I had a full blood panel done shortly before gallbladder surgery and everything was in the normal range. I am seeing my dr again in two weeks and will discuss doing another panel.

Absolutely yes! I have gall bladder removal surgery 4 years ago, and I've had body itching that seemed to start soon after & ever since. I also have little tiny whitish bumps in certain areas on my body; specifically around my armpits, & on my stomach. And now I also have a few on these same bumps on my face, chest & neck. My Primary Dr. did not know what they are, and I have not gone to a skin specialist about this problem as of yet. And I had not thought that: it could be because I do not have a gall bladder any longer, and that my body may be trying to get rid of the salts I consume in the fashion you have mentioned. I will remember this when I do get around to seeing my Skin Specialist, asking if these little itchy bumps are from my not having a gall bladder any longer, & if this is how my body is getting rid of excess salt in my body. What an interesting concept! Thank you so much for sharing that you also have itching problems. Do you have any little tiny bumps in the areas where you notice itching? I do not remember when my bumps started exactly, but I know they began about 2 years after my gall bladder surgery. Best wishes & blessings to you.

I do not have any small white bumps until I scratch the area. Then I notice small white bumps appearing.

I still have my gallstone. I have over 20 and I was diagnosed in 2015. the flare ups are quite random. I had 3 flare ups in less than 24 hours this weekend after having no pain for nearly a year. and since the flare ups my whole body is itchy especially my hands and feet and tummy. my urine was dark the day after the first 2 flare ups but is fine now. not sure if I should be chasing this up or not as I dont have flare ups often and no one seems to want to operate my urine is fine again now but wondering what went on in my gallbladder this time for these 2 symptoms to happen. I understand itching is to do with bile and bile build up etc. any thoughts?

I am 8 weeks post surgery now. I am totally convinced that the itchiness is from a build up of bile in the liver (since I do not have my holding station (gallbladder) any more. The itchiness is almost 100% gone now. I was told the itchiness could be from the liver or kidneys. I just had a complete blood work panel done and my liver and kidney function were fine. I think it just took time for the liver to compensate no gallbladder. Not sure, but I have an appointment in a few weeks with my gastro dr and going to discuss this with him. Now I am dealing with a lot of digestive issues because of the lack of a gallbladder. Itchiness is the worst though - the only thing that really helped was Benadryl at night and Cerevue cream.
