Is an extruded disc harder to fix if you wait too long?

Posted , 1 user is following.

3 month follow up with neurosurgeon over far left lateral disc herniation. The doc said if one waits too long, the disc material hardens and can make it very difficult to remove because it can break apart resulting in small shards that need to be picked out separately.

The nerve held out of the way too long can result in nerve damage so the surgeon may not be able to complete the procedure?

First time I've heard that, anyone else?
