Is Surgery necessary?

I have a bunion issue, actually it's been a couple of years since I started having these bunion pains. Though most have asked me to go to a podiatrist I have been delaying it due to the fear of surgery. I use shoes that does not put pressure on the bunions. Also since I am not much of an outdoor person I was able to stall the doctor's appointment till now.

But now since a few days the pain was increased considerably and I had to book an appointment with a podiatrist in Naperville. It's on Friday and I am hoping against hope that he gives me some medications that can cure my bunion. Any chance of that happening? What are your thoughts?
