Just PCOS or something else?

Since l've had a period they have been irregular, usually missed periods for multiple months. However, I began to have a period that wouldn't stop. This lasted for several months so I went to my gp and was diagnosed with PCOS and was put on birth control. The periods only seemed to worsen so a year after the period started i stopped the birth control and my period stopped. Only it has now been half a year and I still haven't had a period. Before it was normal for me to go this long without a period but I always had a feeling that my extra long period wasn't a symptom of PCOS but something else and the PCOS diagnosis stopped any further testing. Should I go back to the gp or just let it go?
