long term use

I have been on Amitriptyline for over 20 years. I suffer from anxiety, depression and have joint problems, mostly neck and spine. I take 75 to 100mg per day. Have weight problems, dry mouth, brain fog and my memory is awful. I would like to find something else but if I don't take Amitriptyline I can't sleep. Just want to see some light at the end of this long tunnel.

Thanks

      Thanks for replying smile

I am so clumsy, fall up and down stairs and bump into door frames.

My doc said I could take up to 150mg but do try to take 75mg unless I'm having a bad day.

Never good in the mornings no matter what time I take tablets .. brain fog always last a few hours.

Most doctors say weight gain not due to tablets ... wrong!

Try effexor maybe? It still causes dry mouth but it doesn't cause weight gain or memory issues and it works similarly to amitriptlyline. It also works to relax overactive nerves to reduce pain in some cases, like fibromyalgia or functional abdominal pain. As for sleep I take a perscription antihistamine called hydroxizine and melatonin. I'm not sure if that would work for you or not. Trazedone is another antidepressant that is known to cause drowziness, but can sometimes cause changes in weight (gain or loss). There are plenty of medications that can help you sleep either by a side effect of drowziness or that made specifically for helping one sleep. Talk to your doctor and find out which option is right for you.
