Meningioma

Not sure where to post this question.  I had an MRI scan last year for dizziness problems, it was discovered I have a 14mm calcified Meningioma on left frontal lobe.  My consultant is not worried about it at all but I've asked for a follow up scan later this year.  Should I be worried?  When I've googled Meningioma, it comes up with cancer! I'm confused.

    Hi

i think it's a benign tumour so NOT cancerous. No doubt they want to keep a check on you. I assume your consultant is not an oncologist (cancer specialist). It's hard sometimes to understand things that are being said to us I'd suggest booking an extended appt with your GP to talk it through. I was told I had a tumour. Mine turned out to be a non cancerous huge fibroid but all I heard was tumour = cancer.

    Best wishes x

Thanks for your reply.  No my consultant is from the neurology department, I wrote him a letter asking some relevant questions and he sent me a reassuring reply back.  I'm happy to have a follow up scan to monitor it but if he's not worried then I shouldn't be but can't help being a little concerned obviously ie what if it has grown?  I guess I just have to wait till I have my scan and air any concerns with him afterwards.  It's just that I've been scaring myself reading up about meningiomas as they appear under 'cancer' but if it was of any concern to the consultant, I'm sure I would have known about it, like you say, things we don't understand can be confusing to us.

Having just gone through Meningioma surgery, all I can say is trust your neurologist. Over 90 % are benign and they are very slow growing. Mine was 5cm across when it was discovered last March and I am now back at work. You should be fine

Thanks and hope you are recovering well.   How was yours discovered? What were your symptoms?  And thank you for your reassuring words,  I will try not to dwell on it too much and not let the thought of it take over my life.

by the way over 90% of meningiomas are benign and the doctors just keep check to make sure nothing changes
