Migraine associated vertigo

After 9 months of the drop attacks happening and having an MRI and CT scan which are clear I have been diagnosed with Migraine Associated Vertigo and prescribed Pizotifen. I wondered if anyone else has this, could you describe your symptoms to me please? How are you on this medication?

Thanks for any advice x

    Hi Alison,

I get migraines, but don't get the vertigo with it, I get vertigo with Ménière's disease. I had a terrible migraine once where it was so bad I ended up in A&E. After they decided my symptoms were down to a migraine and nothing more sinister I was prescribed Pizotifen. It worked wonders for me and reduced my migraines from 2 to 3 a month to 1 to 2 a year.  My usual symptoms are severe one sided headache (like someone is drilling inside your head), vomiting, really bad sensitivity to light (I have to go into a darkened room), sensitivity to sound (funnily enough this is more quit sounds like someone whispering, normal level sounds I can tolerate).  Prior to a migraine I usually get an "aura", where I see flickering lights that aren't there.  I was diagnosed with epilepsy since then and now take Topiramate which also helps alleviate migraines so I don't need to take Pizotifen.  I hope it works as well for you as it did for me.

      Hi.

For a couple of years I was told I may be suffering from meniaires. The wonderful NHS here in the UK took this time to get me to a specialist and have been told I have severe migraines. eyes fell like they are doing circles in opposite directions, upset stomach, dizziness, pins and needles in arms, sweating and vomiting.

I do suffer from hearing lose in my left ear all the time so wear a hearing aid.

Been put on nortriptyline. These did wonders for a couple of months but upon my return for a month follow up, I had a bad migraine. Specialist told me to double My dose but I have a migraine nearly every day of various strengths, today being a medium migraine.

Do you have all of your symptoms at the same time? This is such a cruel thing to cope with every day and it is starting to get me down.

      Hi Paul,

No, I don't get all my symptoms at the same time with my Ménière's, but when I have a migraine I do. I can tell the difference by the aura, if I get that it's a migraine, if I get fullness in the right ear, hearing loss in the right ear (which is usually my good ear -I wear a hearing aid in my left) then I know my Ménière's will begin.
