Need help figuring out what's wrong with friends son...

My friends 18-year-old son who is having some serious issues. He spent the last week in the hospital and they can’t figure out what it is. I thought I would post here in hopes that someone might have an idea. His symptoms are as follows; rapid weight loss, excruciating muscle pain throughout the entire body (this occurs in flares with no predictability), extreme night sweats, fever, rash/skin peeling on the fingers and toes. The hospital instructed them to take him to the rheumatologist. Any thoughts on what this might be?

Blimey, poor kid . Is this sudden onset? I have Psoriatic Arthritis and my experience of this disease and what I have read, it's usually gradual. I can't comment about other AID's .

Has he recently had an insect bite? Has he been tested for Lyme Disease? That has some nasty side effects. Has he had his Vitamin D levels tested.? I know it sounds simple, but mine was very very low and it wasn't automatically tested. That has horrible side effects too.

I hope you get some answers, a Rheumatalogist is definitely a good way to go.
