Need help understanding prednisone instructions

My mum has been diagnosed with PMR and prescribed prednisolone, but she can’t remember the instructions her doctor gave her for how many to take.

For various reasons, she is refusing point blank to see the doctor again or even speak to him on the phone, and they won’t let me do it on her behalf.

She has 5mg tablets, which say on the packet to take 4 per day. No problem there.

She also has 1mg tablets, and the pack says to reduce the amount she takes by one every four weeks - but it doesn’t say how many she should take to start with. She’s been given 112 of them, which works out as 4 per day.

Does that sound right?

Her health is very poor at the moment (she can barely stand up unaided) so she needs to start getting these pills in her ASAP.
