Night sweats

Hi all

I m nearly 6 wks post op and this last week I ve been having awful night sweats, heart palpitations and my sleeping pattern is awful. I m awake from about 3am and cannot slept in the day to make up for my loss of sleep. Today I'm feeling shattered. I m due to see my gyno next Wednesday and discuss HRT, how long does it take for the HRT to kick in? Feeling quite desperate now to get some oestrogen back into my system. Also my stomach above the wound swells at night and makes my scar feel taut, anybody else experiencing this?

    Hi Gail.

Yes I had all these symptoms.

My hrt have stopped my night sweats and my sleeping is getting better. You will feel much better on hrt.

My tummy is exactly the same as you. I had doc today and she says all this is normal. It's my back that aches is my main problem.

Let me know how you get on with hrt. I started hrt 3 days after my op.

But have to admit it's my nighttime that's my worst nightmare, just can't get a good nights sleep. I ve now got a frozen shoulder cos I must have lay on it funny, so git pain with that too! Ind thing after another, but I feel a lot better than i did 5 wks ago 😄

Hi Nanny to 5 I had hrt patches following my tah and found them to take effect within days. It took a couple of weeks to get the dosage right but they dif get rid of night sweats. Ive since stopped taking them though as my gp went into detail about the side effect of increased risk of breast cancer. Ive started taking cacium to protect from osteoporosis and black cohosh to help with hormone deficiency. Night sweats are horrid though aren't they... I wake about three for an hour or so too....shattering.

      Hi jojo

Thanks for info, I definately want HRT I want the oestrogen in my body. After having my ovaries removed I was extremely upset at losing them and the devastating effect it can have on our hearts and bones. Breast an er is only very minuscule if you have no ovaries, and although my mom had the dreaded breast cancer 15 years ago I m willing to risk it for the sake of my heart. I ll see how I go but just hope it don't make me have nausea , weight gain and headaches. Can't wait to start but apprehensive about it all x

I will take my first tablet tomorrow so will let you know how it goes. I was against the tablet but have been asked to take this one for 6 months only as I need combined one to make sure endo doesn't come back. I will then go onto estrogen patches until normal menopause age 11 years time and then gradually reduce dose then. The increase in risk is higher taking hrt after menopause age and risk of not taking it at a young age as body needs estrogen for healthy bones, brain etc. I can't turn clock back and put ovaries back so I have to be positive and trust that the endo specialist is right! I hope you get sorted and ease your symptoms x

Thanks for that, yeh I need HRT and am willing to take the risks.o know the risk of breast cancer is higher if you're taking it as a supplement (got ovaries but peri menopausal) but less for women with ovaries removed as we need some oestrogen and have none whatsoever! That's hiw I read it anyway. I m hoping for patches or gel as lee (poppy49) seems to be doing so well on them. Happy to hear you're now recovering x

Hi. My mum had breast cancer but it's not what she died of. She had a stroke. My doc seems to think that the gel,is oestrogen only so not such a risk. I honesty have got rid of nearly all my symptoms with the gel. I love it. Everyone is different.  it is great we can share experiences like this. I am 6 weeks yesterday and apart from sore back and still big belly I feel really good.   Good luck

    Hi Gail,

I have been recovering well except that i feel that i need hrt now.I will be 6 weeks post op next Tues and for about 2 weeks i have been having very bad nights for hot sweats and lack of sleep.I am never a person late to bed, generally by 10.00pm.I didn't feel so tired after my op but then i

had a 6lb fibroid removed which probably helped. Now i am in bed

by 9.30pm,go to sleep quick and i wake up again by 10.30pm.I

watch the clock every hr with a short nap in between. One minute

the duvet is off as i am so hot then

it goes back over me only to find

that a few minutes later it is off

    again.I don't normally have a

window open but at the moment it

is open wide every night.I get up

    each morning shattered.I even try

2 Nytol tablets each evening.I am seeing both my Doctor and my consultant next Mon so i will let you know how i get on.

    Luv

I had the hot flashes and headaches , started about 3 weeks after op. Started hrt about week 6 and started to settle about 3 weeks after that I think. Still not sure am on right dose. Was told takes 8 weeks for you to tell if needs increasing. Has helped with the hot spells and poor sleep. Have read afew things that say oestrogen is important for good sleep. I found I just couldn't wind down and switch off to go to sleep. Would just lie in bed , eyes wide open , brain switched on! Getting better now. Hope things settle, seems a long journey from my experience.
