Not understanding anymore

I contracted HSV-2 40 years ago.  At that time no one told me this was an infectious desease and there was no name attributed to it (or at least the doctor I consulted at the time in Europe did not diagnose it as such).    It was dorment for 17 years until after the birth of my second son.  I went to see a specialist who confirmed a diagnosis of HSV-2.  Of course I had to anounce this to my husband.  He was understanding and I never transmitted to him the virus (or at least it's what I believe).  The virus was active (on and off not too frequent) for 5 years.  I came to understand it's pattern and what caused my outbreaks.  During my 3rd pregnancy I was carefully followed by my doctor and gave birth normally.  Following which the virus went dorment for another 14 years.

I went through a difficult divorce in 2002 and returned to a full time (stressful) job after 15 years of "stay at home mum". I was sure my H would re-appear, but strangely enough it didn't.  At least not for 10 years.  I dated a few men and never transmitted the virus.  In October 2014 I suffered a burn out at work.  I returned 3 months later, in January 2015, and this is when everything changed.

I started getting continuous outbreaks. I've suffered ongoing episodes since January without more than 3 days of break in between!  I feel like it just won't go away and it has been there every day since July 1st.  I know this is not normal (because it usually lasts 2 weeks only).  I decided to take a 5 day dose of Valtrex, but still feel it.  Has anyone suffered an outbreak for longer than 2 weeks and what did you do?

I'm not sure of your age exactly, but based in your years being infected, I would guess in your late 50s or in your 60s? So I'll make the assumption you're in menopause or finishing maybe? Hormones can be a huge trigger for it.

Also, sounds like you've extremely stressed out and if that's the case w back to back obs, a 5 day course isn't going to do much for you. I would suggest getting on daily suppressive therapy for awhile.

I actually have just had back to back obs for over a minth. I'm taking 1000.lgs of valtrex twice a day to get and make it calm down and go dormant again and then I'll go back to 500mlga a day again.

Taking nightly Epsom salt baths when symptoms are present helps a lot.

Also, your body is telling you something is changed and off, for it IT o be so quiet for you and then come out like this. Lucky you to have had that. I have had it over a year and have not gone a mi th w out an ob.

Thank you for sharing.  I'm 59 years old.  I'm not certain if menopause is a factor here as I'm on hormones to control the hot flashes in order to sleep and go to work the next day!  But no doubt there must be truth in what you say for someone going through menopause naturally.

Has the double dose of valtrex (1g 2xday) helped you calm down or stop your current ob?

Sorry to hear about your back to back ob.  Not sure how long you have been diagnosed, but knowing this virus acts quite differently between each individual I believe there is a way to work with it.  Hang in there.

We I'm on birth control and o still have obs on my period, do I don't think it matters. Something may have shifted or dropped more and you've not noticed, but your body does.

Yes. Doubling works for me to make it go away, but I still kept getting back to back after I'd go back to 500. I'm actually taking 1000mlgs twice a day trying to get everything to calm down. I used to take 1000mlgs a day for suppression and still had breakthrough obs on my period or if I drank liquor and stayed out late. I will take this dosage for a couple more days and go back to 500.
