Odd symptoms in neck

Hi all ,

Well I had a parathyroid tumour removed last year which was straight forward, I still have a thyroid level of 18 and on levithyrixine 250mg daily.

My I going problem for 10 weeks is just under the angle of the jaw (bony part) I noticed a lump , felt like it was attached to the bone at first , as time has gone on its causing really bad pain down my neck and under the clavicle to the top of my breast ( right side ) , my gp felt it and arranged an urgent referral back to my endocrinologist who done the parathyroid surgery I'm seeing him next week , the pain has now also spread to my ear and I have constant ear ache , has anyone ever experienced this , the lump has slightly grown and I have got a painful band down the neck like a rigid area,

Thanks in advance

I'm sorry to hear you have ongoing problems and hope you have some answers when you see your medical people next week.   My left side parotid gland has now been swollen for almost a year but part from looking unsightly I have mild neck pain first thing in the miorning.   I am seen every 3 months by ENT surgeon but no definite diagnosis has been arrived at except they assure me there is nothing sinister going on.   I would like the gland removed.  All the best to you.

Well a total waste of time seeing the endo specialist , he felt the lump and casually said it was a saliva gland and easy to remove !! Then moved straight on to tell me it's clearly a sternocleidomastoid muscle injury, although he told me where the pain was, back of head and down neck, which also included headache , which is nothing like my symptoms and not near the areas he pointed out!!! It took a 5 minute consultation of him not listening and making his diagnosis even though I told him the pain wasn't where he said it was , he told me take pain killers which I explained do not stop the pain at all , but just shrugged his shoulders and said try heat therapy , I'm angry, upset, confused and still in agony , it's been a long time now and nothing stops this pain , really don't know where to turn now

I haven't had much joy with the ENT medics either. I had Sjogrens syndrome diagnosed recently but apart from a dry mouth occasionally have no other symptoms associated with this.  I am still considering a private consultation. I think the NHS are strapped for cash and unless things are urgent they expect you to just carry on.  Hope you get some answers shortly.   I will stock up with aspirin until after Xmas and see what happens at my next appointment in the New Year.
