Oral Lichen Planus

I was diagnosed with OLP 3 weeks ago after suffering pain when i was eating for about 6 months, i had to pay privately to see a Oral consultant as an appointment with the NHS is a 9 month wait. I have a white tongue and apparently white patches on the inside of my cheeks. My question is i can't see anything on the roof of my mouth to cause the pain so why is it hurting so much when i eat, does anybody else have the same problem ?
