Pain in one nipple

Posted , 1 user is following.

About a week ago, I suddenly developed pain in my left nipple. I just turned 50 and am in perimenopause. The nipple is quite sensitive to touch and gets hard very quickly if touched. It looks normal when it's relaxed, but kind of lumpy when it's erect and sticks out more than the other. I am also having mild twinges of pain in that breast randomly throughout the day. The discomfort feels very much like when I had a blocked duct when breastfeeding (many years ago). There are certain areas on the nipple that seems much more sensitive. I have tried feeling around, and don't feel any lumps. I've also had regular mammograms since I turned 40, with no issues thus far. My last mammograms was a little over a year ago. I am just waiting for an ultrasound appointment, but am wondering if anyone has had anything similar.
