Pain on/around belly button

I have this debilitating pain on/around my belly button. It is sharp and mimics Labor pains. I remember having same pains at various points in my life. I'm 44 but I have a clear memory having it when I was I was less than 10 years old. I was actually crawling because I couldn't stand upright. Since then, it has come and gone from time time to time. But now the pain is almost constant. I have some relief some days but it comes more often and stretches for hours. Little background; I had a car accident when I was young and had to have abdominal surgery but I don't know if the two are related. seriously like labor pains but in shorter intervals. If anyone has info on this, please help
