perthese in the 50's

At the age of nine i was admitted to queen marys hospital carshalton from july 1954 to june 1956 with perthes in my keft hip.

I spent 18 months strapped on a carriage then another five months learning to walk with a thomas caliper which i had to wear for another six months after coming home.

i actually enjoyed my time on ward D 8 even sleeping under glass in the outside UNHEATED veranda!

i am now 74 and have had no issues with my hip but looking back, i do regret that time wasted during my formative early years
