Pituitary gland enlarged... Confused. Please help!!

Hi everyone!! I'm 21 years old.. just looking for someone that may be able to answer my questions... Since August I have been very weak and fatigued (I do have occasional good days) but rarely.. It takes a lot out of me to work full time as I was... I have depression, and terrible anxiety now.. So I am now home getting things figured out with the docs. I apologize if this is a bit long.

My first issue was pain in my right breast, mostly in the side and I had shooting pains too, it was only on the right side also.. And under the armpit. (Ultrasound was done & nothing was found)

And then shortly after that.. A couple weeks, when that started to go away I got shooting pains and a constant dull ache on the right side of my head... This head pain has been coming and going now for 5 months... Sometimes it last a few seconds and other times my head feels heavy and I just feel weird. This is still coming and going... After months of nagging at my dr he listened and ordered an MRI. What they found was that my pituitary gland was enlarged.. But want to do another MRI because they couldn't see it well enough. They also did blood tests for hormones which came back normal.. And I just returned my 24 hr urine test today.

Also, a couple months back when I was at work I had blood in my urine for a day.. And then for 3 days straight I had terrible abdominal pain! I had to stay home and couldn't sleep without being in pain.. I did a urine test and the pain was gone after a few days so my dr said everything was good with that unless it came back. Which it hasn't... BUT I do always get this knawing feeling in my stomach, mostly when I wake up.. Kind of like a burning feeling, it's very hard to explain. But it sucks.

My MAIN question is, anyone who has ever had these problems figured it out. And anyone with a pituitary tumor or something alike have these symptoms? (Weak, fatigued, depersonalization, anxiety, depression)? Also, I noticed these quick aches and pains I can get anywhere on my body, for example.. Yesterday was under my right breast and then moved to under my rib cage and my lower stomach or even arm... It's very weird. I just wanna know what's wrong with me!!! Anyone's input or just advice would be great smile thank you so much

    Hi Brittney.

Really sorry to hear you are having these symptoms and diagnosis at such a young age. Over the years I had every ache and shooting pain you could think of. The diagnosis is a Macroadenoma but I don't yet know if it is secreting hormones or not. The Endocrinologist will get to the bottom of your condition but from my understanding it will take time to come up with the best treatment for you.

Thank you!! It's just so hard waiting.. I'm constantly terrified that it's something worse like cancer and my anxiety is just through the roof... Did you have any symptoms like fatigue or weakness at all? Thanks again, it's nice to talk to someone other than the dr.. Or family & friends that don't understand.

No problem. Yes fatigue and muscle weakness became an issue but that's probably due to me developing hypothyroidism which in hindsight was causes by the tumour I never knew I had. Its extremely hard I know Ive been there but try not to think of malignancy. From what I've been advised by the specialists 99% of pituitary tumours are benign. Yout gland is enlarged so they need to do all the tests and maybe take a more detailed MRI. The worry can be consuming but try not to let it, find an outlet until things start moving test wise. Friends and family don't akways understand but its hard for them as they're not walking in our shoes. Have your tests and let us know how you get on. Good luck. 🙂

When I was sent to the ER one night because I woke up with a panic attack I actually had low thyroid levels.. And then when they checked them again they were back to normal so they're could be something going on there but idk! thank you! And I will definitely keep you posted

Also forgot to mention that I have palpitations a lot and feel like I'm about to have a panic attack like all day but never actually have one... It's quite scary. I never know what's going kn

Its all nit unusual, the gland controls most hormones in the body. Its all about having the endocrine tests and treatment.

    Hi Brittany,

What is your prolactin level? I had severe fatigue in my teens and found out me levels were dangerously high. I couldn't stay awake in class. Being tired is super depressing.

Unfortunately I don't know about the shooting pains. First thing is first. You have to breath. Take some time to stop, take a deep breath and try to get the anxiety under control. Take it from me. I have severe tmj disorder and I have had to get stress and anxiety under control to be able to function because of the pain stress Causes my body. Once I found out my pituitary cysts was back my stress levels hit the roof. I understand that horrible feeling of uncertainty. Over time I've become jaded to it. One problem after the next, and stressing over it only hurts me. I'm not saying stress is causing your problem only that it will make to worse. It wasn't easy but the more I became aware of my thoughts and how they made my body feel the More I could stop and relax. Pay attention to the thoughts you have. Write them down. How negative and worrisome are they? When I feel myself going On a downward spiral I try to change the pattern and direction of my thoughts. It helps and it gets easier. Even if your condition is causing anxiety, the stress of the issue will amplify it. In the end we have to find ways to deal with the challenges so we can live happier lives, but you have to fight for yourself. When you are worried and feel yourself tensing up tell yourself that you will have answers soon. You will. Give yourself a goal, IE only two weeks until I get results. And say it over and over. You're almost there! When you can't get a grasp on it focus on deep breaths. I hope your answers come soon.
