Possible thyroglossal cyst

I had a cold/was feeling unwell a couple of weeks ago and since then i have had a lump in my throat/neck that moves, is very hard and is tender. it is between the Adams apple and chin. I'm also feeling generally run down

I went to the doctors on Wednesday and they said it sounds like a thyroglossal cyst. I'm not convinced because its hard and painful, and i thought cysts were suppose to be the opposite. If it is a cyst i think it might be infected. i have phoned the doctors this morning so they will be getting back to me today but does anyone have any experience with this? I've been worrying myself by googling it constantly!
