Pre-op query

Hi - all being well, I will have my op a week today. Pre-op, I have been using 12 hr Voltarol / heat pads / Anadin extra. I now have 1/2 tube of Voltarol left and 1 packet of heat pads. As these are quite expensive, I'm hoping to eke them out this week. Presumably not useful post op?

I think that if that is all you are using to live through the pain you are getting on fine, the initial pain after the operation is quite sore for a few days, but gets easier by the day, I used Tramadol to keep as pain free as possible, you will know how it goes, and ask the experts at the hospital.

Best of luck and please stay in touch here.  Ian.

Thanks Ian. I hadn't thought of myself as 'good with pain' and 'stoical', but that's what the consultant said I must be when I met with him and he looked at my X-Ray! I don't like pain, obviously, but I also don't like taking tablets.

    Hi abby

If you can eke out what you have left you shouldnt need them post op. Your old pain will go (hooray!) and you should get all the pain meds you will need to help with post op pain from wound etc from the hospital.

Best of luck for next week.

Do yourself a huge favor and have a pedicure before you go to have the operation. I didn't before the first one and was so glad that I did before the second one.

You will be amazed post op that you don't have the grinding pain anymore. I was swallowing so much pain killers for so many months before my 1st op. Now I'm taking 2 paracetamol if/when needed. And difene in the last few weeks for other hip that's for op in January. Take & rub on whatever helps until your op.
