Psoriasis - just been put on 350mg Ciclosporin

I wonder if anyone can help? I was diagnosed with lupus 2 years ago and then they said I had both lupus and psoriasis last year. They tried me on various creams but it has never been worse. I have just been taken of accecretin and put on the above. I have a huge amount of pain in my feet and literally cannot walk well. Is this level of pain normal with psoriasis? I am also on a lot of other pills for blood pressure, gout, irritable bladder, acid reflux and worry about possible interations. I am 76 years old and my quality of life is really going downhill. I wonder if anyone here has had both lupus and psoriasis? I do now understand that the initital tablets for lupus were not good for gout. I have been told I need regular blood tests but the side affects for ciclosporin sound seriously scary. But I have had infections and a few weeks ago was on 4000mg anitbiotics for cellulitus so I do have to give it a go. I wonder if I have some form of arhtiritus too  or is psoriasis this painful? It has got worse in last few weeks - I am on 8 Zapain and 2 Naproxen painkillers a day but checked with pharmasist and I can take these with it short term. Thanks for reading.

Sorry but I can't exactly answer your question however when diagnosed with nail psoriasis I asked for drug control and was warned by my GP "not to be silly, the drugs for this will kill me!".

He was refering to methotrexate and, in some respects he was right BUT as he didn't understand how painful nail psoriasis can be how could he know how brilliant the drug actually is?

Four years on, only slight changes to my lifestyle and the drug has given me (for the last year) complete control over the psoriasis.

Side effects are something to worry about if/when they affect you - try the drugs to see if it works for you; maybe it will?

    Good luck

    Hi Krug22

I have had Psoriasis for 35 yrs and was diagnosed Psoriatic Arthritis in 2001 and my feet were very hot and painful i had to wear trainers which helped a lot. Ask your doc if it could be this type of arthritis also it could be the meds causing your reflux, if you have been on antibiotics that can also upset your tummy you need some probiotics.

Please get yourself tested for B12 deficiency, especially if you have taken acid reduction tablets long term, i have this deficiency and low iron it causes no end of problems if left untreated, i had a lot of infections before i started getting my B12 injs. Im sorry i cant give you any advice on your tabs your taking. I hope you get better soon x

Hi Krug22, Sounds like you may also have Psoriatic Arthritis, I think maybe you should go back to see your gp and request a referral to see a Rheumatologist and see what him/her says.

    Hi Krug22

it does sound like psoratic arthritis i have it and it is very painful. You need to get checked for it asap as in my case it was not found for over 2 years and by that time a lot of the damage was done and is not reversable, so get it checked asap. i believe that 5% of people with psoraris get psoratic arthritis so it is possible you may have it. There are a lot of treatments for the condition but its is trial and error to find which one or combination works for you which can be a long process. The pain is caused by inflamation in the joints read up on the condition it will explain it and how it can be managed, some of the medication used has a lot of dangerous side effects and require blood monitoring to ensure no damage to organs is happening but your specialist should advise on what precautions need to be taken as well as your GP. At present i am on Sulfasalazine and Methotrexate as well as pain killers which do not seem to work most of the time but if i was not taken them im sure i would be in more pain than i normally am. I also use ibrupen to try to control it and because of using methotrexate i have to have folic acid as well. But as i said you need to get it checked asap as time does damage the joints if caught early this can be reduced do not be fobbed off and insist on tests early. sadly i have learnt this the hard way which i blame my doctors for as i was going on regular occaisions and they never pick up on my condition of psorasis developing into psoratic arthritis as well.
