Psudomas pneumonia

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi I have had bronchiectasis in all lobes for about five years now. And I got psudomas pneumonia last year and was very ill with it was in hospital for two weeks on iv antibioics . However I seemed to make a full recovery  from the pneumonia but was told by the hospital that once you have psudomas it is very hard to get rid of and it can come back . Has anyone on here ever had this and it has reoccurred again ?

Hello Jackie. Sorry you've been so ill. I've had bronchiectasis since I was a toddler and in recent years on my notes it says chronic pseudomonas infection. So in other words I permanently have pseudomonas lurking in my lungs. It is a nuisance because it doesn't respond well to antibiotics. There are a couple of more effective ones but they can only be given to you intravenously. I just live with my condition. I have permanent sputum which can be quite copious sometimes but if I do my daily postural drainage it keeps matters under control. My specialist is not too worried as long as I keep well and my lung function is OK. Now and again I get ill and have been given very strong antibiotics. That clears matters up usually but next time it happens I am being threatened with a hospital stay. Fortunately so far so good!

Good luck and I hope you keep well.

    Hi Jackie

I was diagnosed with pseudomonas first through sputum tests after having a constant cough for 12 months. I was finally sent to a specialist

Had alot of tests done then ct comfirmed i had bronchectisis

I was treated for 6 weeks on ciprofloxicin and it seemed to clear it i kept getting other infections and was treated with other antibiotics

Ive had bronchectisis for 3 1/2 yrs

Its come back 3 times since.

I've had 2 lots of i.v antibiotics the last time which was in January

I had hospital in the home for 3 weeks 3 months of gentamiacin through a nebulizer and oral antibiotics and it has kept we well with no cough at all.

A month ago i got a cold followed by gastro then a cold again and its come back

Currently on cipro again and next week start i.v antibiotics again. Hopefully it will keep me well for awhile again.

My dr told me its colonized and its about controling it and keeping it at bay as i will never eradicate it now.

Hi Jackie, I don't think I have the best communication with my Dr. after reading all these responses.  I live in the US and tonight is my first time on here. I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis about 3 years ago after having pneumonia for over 30 years at least once a year. It took forever to diagnose it.  They just treated me with an antibotic for a week and Id be fine for 4-6 weeks and sick again.  The pseudomonas is interesting. How do they find that? Ive had two sinus surgeries and it was found in my sinuses. It seems to me that it is most likely in the lungs too as I am doing okay until like today it got cold and I'm having trouble breathing and will probably go to the Doc . on Monday.  On and on.  It is so tiring. I have noticed little specks of yellow or gold in the mucus today too. I'm so sorry you are so ill. This is an impossible disease and I'm so glad I found this site to see what others are going through. My paster has Bronchiectis and the same dr that treats me treats him. He put him on an oral antibiotic three days a week and he is feeling great.  I go out very little. If I smell smoke on anyone or in the air it takes two days to recover.  Take good care.

Hi Schatz thank you for your replay . So sorry to hear that you too are suffering from this horrid condition. They find the psudomas from sputum tests. Have you been shown how to get the mucus up . My advice is that you ask to be referred to a physio therapist who will show you the breathing techneces to help you . Also my consultant always recommends two weeks of antibiotics when I have an infection. I wish you well soon .
