Shoulder reconstruction

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi all, I will be getting a shoulder reconstruction in a few weeks following a forward fall on my elbows.

This resulted in the tendons in my right shoulder being ripped of the bone. I can not lift my arm to a horizontal level in any direction and have a few click sounds now and then like something gets stuck at some point in movement.

I am 62 yo and the specialist reckon over the years a fair bit of damage was done to my shoulders. (Sport etc.)

The Doctor also advise I wont be driving or doing any work for a few months after the op. I am right handed.

The incident happened at work and Qld Workcover is leading the charge. Any suggestions or what to look out for in this regard will be appreciated.

A few questions please:

Any suggestions on preparations before the op.

Best sleeping enhancers, positions, Pain killers, etc.

Time frames for your recovery period

Was it worth it? (I don't have a choice - too much damage)

Suggestions on exercises before and after the op.

Thank you in advance.

    hi rassie.

    .

ho my god. good luck on the recovery. do as your told no more no less. doing twice as much in recovery doesnt mean you recover twice as quick. far from it.

    .

be mentally prepared for a long slow recovery. small gains are big hurdles done. .

    .

video your recovery each week and look back on how far you have come. it keeps you positive. on that note if you are down talk to the other half of a friend.

    .

there will be bad weeks and good weeks. you have the summer to recover. go for a walk ( in your immobiliser). get out in the sun.

    .

get a good immobiliser ( i got the donjoy quadrent). if you have to were something get the best.

    .

i got from health and care the aircast cryo shoulder cuff. the one with a pump about £150. kills any pain and reduces swelling. use it all night no probs.

    .

Squeezy ball to play with. pump the rubbish out your system and keeps your lower forearm working and active.

    .

go three sizes up with button short sleeve tops

    .

i went to the motorbility shop and got a foam 60° wedge for the bed. easier to sit up in bed with the pillows.

    .

hyaluronic acid and collagen tablets to assist the tendons ( thats what they are made of). boosts the tendon regeneration. if it dont work you get smooth skin lol.

    .

be in front of the ache. take the tablets if needed. the neck block wears off next day. i went straight to ice water pump.

    .

keep positive and stay strong mentally and really good luck. keep us up to date and if you need to vent do it on here.

    .

thats what the clubs here is all about.

    .

    colin
