Spine MRI - help!

Posted , 1 user is following.

I have had severe lower back pain and buzzing in left leg for months now. I paid for a private MRI which the consultant said showed ‘degenerative changes at L5/S1 without neurological compression and slight kyphosis at thoracolumbar junction and what looks like Schorls nodes.’ I left this and he advised physio.

Pain has become unbearable. I have now found out from GP that consultant has sent letters saying the radiologist findings were actually that there is ‘unusual appearance of the conus at the end of the spinal cord’ and needs further testing.

I had MRI with contrast straight away and the consultant has confirmed there is an 'odd appearance' of the conus and they are not sure what it is. Various radiologists have looked. He said it does not look aggressive or typically cancer-like in terms of 'something that would spread.' Instead, it could be a type of benign tumour or inflammation but he seemed hazy around this.

He has urgently referred me to neurology and recommended i be part of an MDT meeting where a team of people will decide on a diagnosis. I realise if specialists are struggling then no one can help me diagnose but has anyone experienced anything similar at all???
