Strange smell and taste in mouth

Posted , 2 users are following.

Okay so I've had this strange smell in my right nostril and it leads to my mouth causing me to taste it.. at least thats what I think.

It's like rotten food - chicken taste to be precise? it is driving me insane, I've had two friends smell my breath and they said they cannot smell anything but when I talk it makes me more aware of it, when I breathe in through my nose it amplifies the taste.

All I know is the previous night prior to it happening I had thick water like stuff coming from my nose when leaning forward it was just dripping out itself, It was not alot and one of my friends just said it was a runny nose, now the  next morning I noticed this horrible smell when I was in the toilet, it was quite bad, my nose was runny though so naturally I did wipe my nose with my hands and I could smell it on my hand this horrible smell.. My nose isn't runny and I don't have any other symptoms that I'm aware of but its still their...

Any ideas? - Didnt have a cold or anything.

You may have developed nasal polyps.  They discharge a clear fluid - almost like water.  Ask to be sent to a rhinologist (a nasal specialist) - almost certainly the ear nose and throat section of a large hospital.  They have the kit to check out your nasal cavities (it doesn;t hurt!) and they can see the polyps if they are there.

Treatment involves using cortico-steroid drops in your nose (beconase is their trade name).  You can buy these as an OTC medicine, so it might be worth buying some, to see if they work?

The foul smells are a side-effect of this sort of problem; they go away, but not in the way you would like.  Generally, one loses the sense of all smell completely!

Buy some Beconase from your chemist and try it out; and then go and see your GP, and ask to be referred to a sinus clinic.

I forgot to mention in my previous reply that you could try using a nasal rinse?  Nielmed make these, complete with a plastic squeezy bottle (which you need for getting the fluid into your sinuses.

You can buy Nielmed products off Amazon
