Strep Throat Advice

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had the tiniest cough on Monday but didn't think anything of it. But the I woke up on Tuesday with a sore throat, the cough of course scratching it like sandpaper, aching joints and a high temperature.

I've deduced that this is probably strep throat by the symptoms but here's where I want the advice;

Should I bother my doctor with this? This website says I need antibiotics but will the infection go away by itself anyway? What are people's experiences with strep throat? Do you think I might have something else? Please tell me what you think!

    It can still be viral URTI (eg. a cold) which means that antibiotics are wasted. A teaspoon (or 2..) of honey and lemon in hot water should help. You will probably be coughing and sneezing, so you are contaminating everwhere you go is possible, please stay away from others. If you want medicine then find the Garlic+VitC+horseradish and Echinacea.

      Normal use of Paracetamol/Ibprofen. Wait several days to start geting over it. If symptoms get worse then a typical cold then please seek a medical opinion (eg. a family doctor / GP).

    Thank you everyone for your replies!

    I lost my voice on Wednesday and still couldn't sleep because my sore throat and cough kept me awake.

    I spoke to my GP on the phone yesterday and she wanted to examine me. She was happy to say it was only viral (thank goodness) and to continue drinking lots of water etc

    I've still not got my voice back but she said I should be fine by Monday.
